Croesus Track

2 days – overnight at Ces Clark Hut. (A reasonable level of fitness is required).

Croesus Track Package $310.00

This includes 2 nights in the 1 bedroom ocean view luxury unit. 1 night before the walk and 1 night after. This also includes the drop off and pick up service. We will drop you off at the beginning of this walk (Blackball), and when you get to the other end (Barrytown) we will pick you up and drive you back to Beach Hideaway, where you can soak your weary muscles in the hot tub.

The Croesus Track is a direct route between Blackball and Barrytown, and cuts right across the Paparoa National Park.

It is advisable to start your walk at the Blackball end, because of the steepness of the Barrytown side. Travelling south, Blackball is signposted to the left about 1km before crossing the Grey River.

The start of the track at Smoke Ho car park is signposted from Blackball.

The track follows the old gold miners trail to exotically named places like: Croesus Mine, Perotti’s Mill, Roaring Meg, Minerva and Garden Gully. A variety of side tracks lead to historic sites.

The beautifully sited Ces Clark hut has 24 bunks, running water and a coal burner. Two hours from the hut following the razorback trail Mt Ryall summit is an easy 5 minute climb.

After that it is downhill all the way to finish right in front of the Barrytown pub.

There are numerous other long walks in this beautiful area of the unspoiled West Coast. There are maps and pamphlets available at the DOC Visitors Centre at Punakaiki.
