Punakaiki - Pororari Loop

Punakaiki – Pororari Loop (3hr 30min round trip – one river crossing)

A popular walk combining the southern section of the Inland Pack Track with the Pororari River Track. It includes a crossing of the Punakaiki River (dangerous in flood) and is an easily graded climb over the ridge dividing the two rivers, where there are distinct forest changes. It is worth carrying on for a short distance beyond the Pororari Track junction to the river ford, a perfect place for a rest and something to eat before heading down the Pororari Gorge.

Access: Across the ford 1.5km up the Punakaiki valley road, about 1km south of the Visitor Centre, just over the main road bridge.
